Description
ViaFriction RWY is a one-wheeled friction device. It can be mounted on a trailer or onto a pick-up truck. It is designated as a CFME (Continuous Friction measuring Equipment) Its main task is to measure friction of the various surfaces on an airport. The friction device can also monitor the friction level in winter conditions when water is not possible to use.
The friction between the measuring wheel and the surface is continuously measured, while a unique measuring technology, developed and patented by ViaTech, ensures that the data is stable and reliable, even under volatile conditions. This reduces the need for calibration significantly. Both fixed and variable slip are supported.
ViaTech has a long history with friction measurement, and care has been taken to keep the old well- proven history with devices like RUNAR and RoAR mk5. These device has been modernized to current advanced measurement technology, and represents a cutting edge solution for airport friction measurement. The measurement technology used in this device, even if cutting-edge, is well-proven as well, and will give a very good overview and sample of the measured areas.
Through rigorous testing, it has been proved that ViaFriction RWY has superior characteristics compared with other friction testers on the market. ViaFriction RWY gives repeatable measurements for various conditions and retains its calibration over time.
ViaFriction RWY is delivered as trailer solution, or as a vehicle mounted device as shown below. A detachable pickup truck mounting is also available. Multi-track measurement with multi-head installations is possible as well. All parts are easily serviceable, and care has been taken to ensure a very stable and long lasting unit.
ViaTech has done maintenance and upgrades for the original RoAR and RUNAR since 2005. In 2015 a new evolution of RoAR and RUNAR was introduced by ViaTech. RoAR mk5 became RoAR mk6 and RUNAR was rebranded to ViaFriction RWY. The new versions have been very well received in the market.
User Interface
The driver operates the ViaFriction friction tester using a Windows PC program. Normally the program is running on a lap-top, but can also be on a stationary PC mounted in the vehicle. The program can, in addition to the normal PC interface, be operated using a small button panel mounted close to the steering wheel. Ethe program is adapted to airport usage. A full map of the airport can be loaded. The program will the know where the measurements are performed. It is also possible to configure the runways manually. The user then has to select the runway and measurement direction before each measurement run. The measurements can then be analysed using ViaPlot+ , Microsoft Excel or just sent as text reports to the tower.
